HPU Promotes Wear To Associate Professor Of Psychology

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 12, 2009 ? Dr. Kimberly Wear received tenure and has been promoted to associate professor of psychology in the Department of Psychology at High Point University. She previously served as assistant professor of psychology.

Wear specializes in human learning and memory in young adults, and has focused research on the concept of cognitive and behavior inhibition. In addition to teaching courses and conducting research, she also serves as the adviser to Psi Chi, the Psychology National Honor Society at HPU.

“I am very pleased to be recognized by my colleagues and awarded tenure,” Wear says. “I look forward to my continued role as a professor here at the university.”

Wear holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee, and Master of Science and doctorate degrees in cognitive and experimental psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Wear came to HPU in 2003 and since then has published research in various journals and presented at numerous conferences. She established the Institutional Review Board at HPU, which is responsible for overseeing all procedures, protocols and forms associated with the guarantee of ethical research on campus. She was also voted outstanding faculty member in 2006. Wear is currently working on three significant research programs, two of which involve students? research.
