HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 13, 2009 – High Point University student Rebekah Hollar, a sophomore majoring in education, is not only busy preparing for her future career, but she?s also busy making sure she takes time to help others.
Hollar, who has worked diligently on helping children in Kenya ? including the donation of more than 1,000 pairs of shoes – has taken on another project. She?s now hoping to bring Christmas cheer to the kids.
She plans to send donations to the Mercy Care Centre, a school in Kenya that she has helped in the past. Her plan is to collect money to help buy Christmas presents for each child at the school.
Hollar has printed out several gift tags ? each tag bears the name of one child at the school.
“I’m asking for a $2 donation in order to buy a Christmas present for one child,” she explains. “For that donation, a person can choose one tag. I’m asking that they write their own name in the ?From? space on the tag.”
Once the donations are collected and the tags filled out, Hollar plans to wire the donations through the school’s foundation in Virginia. The principal of the school will then purchase the gifts in Kenya due to high shipping costs, Hollar says.
“Most of the children barely have any food to eat, so I’m sure it would be an incredible blessing for them to receive a small gift for Christmas,” Hollar says. “Two dollars is a very tangible amount for most people to donate for such a beneficial cause.”
Those interested in donating may contact Rebekah Hollar via e-mail at [email protected].
