HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 10, 2009 ? Phi Mu Sorority at High Point University will soon be holding fellow students ransom as part of a unique philanthropy event, called ?Cansome Ransom.? The event, to be held on Nov. 21, will help raise money for the Children?s Miracle Network, the sorority?s philanthropy.
“We are asking all organizations on campus to provide five people from their group who are willing to be ‘kidnapped’ for a cause,” says Sydney Malley, public relations chair for Phi Mu. “People who volunteer will receive a free T-shirt and food while in ‘captivity.’ But while they?re in captivity, organizations have to come up with their ‘ransom.'”
Malley says canned food items and money will be accepted as ransom payment.
“All of the food will be donated to Open Door Ministries in High Point for Thanksgiving, and all of the money will go to the Children?s Miracle Network, with the exception of a small portion, which will go to the organization that raises the largest amount of money and canned food items.”
