HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 3, 2009 ? High Point University student Laura Lee will soon be reaching for the stars thanks to a unique fellowship she scored with NASA.
Lee, a sophomore majoring in biochemistry with a minor in physics, found out about the NASA MUST (Motivating Undergraduates in Science and Technology) program while searching online.
“I have always loved astronomy ? I even have two telescopes at home,” Lee says. “I have always been searching for an opportunity to work at NASA.”
Lee says the program consists of a one-year $10,000 scholarship in addition to a 10-week paid internship. She will also receive year-round tutoring, attend lecture series and receive mentoring from STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) faculty.
“The possibilities of what I’ll learn during this opportunity are endless,” Lee adds. “That’s why I wanted to take part in this internship so much.”
Lee says she loves research and hopes to someday earn a doctorate.
“I am really excited about this NASA MUST program and am looking forward to all the opportunities it will present,” Lee says.
