HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 4, 2009 – High Point University student Lauren Cranmer was recently elected president-elect for the Student Majors Association for the North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Cranmer, a junior majoring in sports management, will serve as president-elect this year, then go on to serve as president next year.
Dr. Martie Bell, associate professor of physical education, explains that Cranmer was nominated after submitting her qualifications – including her resume. Competition was tough, but she won with votes of confidence coming from students from other schools.
Bell adds that Cranmer, “who is really organized and one of the most driven, self-motivated students I’ve ever had,” served as president of the Sports Majors Club for one year, and currently serves as the manager of concessions on campus.
“This is a really big honor,” Bell says. “She is an officer for the association that represents every university and college in the state.”
The SMA is one of the six associations that make up the North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
