HPU's Kappa Delta Sorority Collects Jewelry To Help Brighten Spirits Of Hospitalized Children

HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 8, 2009 ? The members of Kappa Delta Sorority at High Point University remember how much fun playing dress-up was when they were kids ? and they?re helping hospitalized children get the chance to do the same.

The sorority is hosting a jewelry drive through Dec. 11, with the hopes that students and community members might donate old or unused jewelry. The group will then take the donations to The Children?s Hospital of Richmond, Va.

Donations will be collected at University Center tables throughout the week. Kappa Delta is also encouraging students and faculty to stop by the tables between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to help decorate Christmas cards for patients at the hospital.

“We are really excited for our jewelry drive,” says Megan Hennessey, vice president of public community service for the sorority. “We want patients at Children’s Hospital to be able to have fun and forget why they are there. Being able to play dress-up and wear the donated jewelry will help brighten their spirits.”
