HIGH POINT, N.C., March 4, 2011 ? More than a dozen students and faculty members from the Psychology Department at High Point University recently attended the Society for Personality and Social Psychology conference in San Antonio, Texas. The annual conference, held Jan. 27 through 29, brought together more than 3,000 students and faculty from across the nation to share ideas and recent advancements within the fields of social and personality psychology.
While at the conference, students participated in symposiums and poster sessions where researchers shared their most recent work, including a number of findings that have not yet been published or shared with the general public.
“This trip was a fantastic experience for us,” says Jessica Stark, a junior and psychology major at HPU. “Attending a national conference provided us with the opportunity to learn outside the classroom and is great preparation for graduate school and future career plans.”
The faculty members who attended the conference also presented posters of their recent research. Topics included attitudes by Dr. Deb Danzis, judgment bias by Dr. Gregg Hundt, romantic partner selection by Dr. Sadie Leder, and personality influences on ?white-lies? by Dr. Jana Spain.
“This was a valuable opportunity for our students, because it allowed them to see first-hand what it is like to be a professional in the field of psychology,” says Hundt, chair of the Psychology Department. “Regardless of what area of psychology our students ultimately choose to pursue, they have gained a truly extraordinary experience that many undergraduates are not fortunate enough to have.”
