HIGH POINT, N.C., March 14, 2011 ? Members of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity at High Point University recently made a $210 donation to the American Red Cross. The money was raised through fundraising efforts with the help of the Mad Greek Grill in High Point.
The fraternity had planned the event previously and had earmarked the money for the American Red Cross, the group?s national philanthropy, but in the process, found out about a family who had lost everything in a fire.
?We heard about this tragic event, and it really impacted us. We wanted to help,? says Matt Petrone, president of Delta Sigma Phi. ?The entire experience has been so very moving, and we decided to make this our fraternity?s fundraising focus.”
Rob Ziegler, executive director of the Greater High Point-Davidson Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, says the donation means a great deal to the organization.
?What Delta Sigma Phi has done helps the Red Cross help all families,? Ziegler says. ?But for one family, it makes all the difference. Last year, we helped 73 families who lost their homes to fire.”
?We all feel very fortunate that we can help out such great organizations, such as the Red Cross, as we expect to not only continue fundraising efforts, but hope to expand and enhance our support with more donations,? Petrone adds.
Petrone says the fraternity has a great working relationship with the Mad Greek Grill, and adds they have plans to work with them in the future for fundraising efforts to help support the group?s philanthropy.
Delta Sigma Phi is one of 15 Greek organizations at High Point University. Students at High Point University volunteer more than 30,000 hours of service annually in the local community, with Greek organizations donating a large portion of those hours.
