HIGH POINT, N.C., March 25, 2011 – Entrepreneurship students in the Phillips School of Business at High Point University recently created the Entrepreneurship Club, a new organization designed to serve as a support system for student entrepreneurs within the university.
Under the direction of faculty adviser Lou Anne Flanders-Stec, the purpose is to provide a network for idea exchange, establish contacts with outside professionals and increase access to competitive resources for business development.
?The club is designed to foster the spirit of entrepreneurism that we learn about in the classroom,? says Chelsea McCray, organizer of the club. ?It will provide opportunities with some real world experience they can use when they begin their own professional careers.?
The group has applied for membership to the Collegiate Entrepreneurs? Organization, the premiere entrepreneur network providing students with leadership training, entrepreneur competitions, internship resources, chapter activities and conferences to help start businesses. The organization has various chapters on university campuses across North America.
The Phillips School of Business offers an entrepreneurship program with a unique combination of courses that provide an understanding of small business development and management. In addition, students may select from an array of electives through which more specialized business knowledge can be attained.
Students at HPU have a history of implementing entrepreneurship in the real world, such as four students who launched the Port Southern clothing company in 2009.
