HIGH POINT, N.C., July 7, 2011 – Maggie Norden, a rising senior at High Point University, is spending her summer making wishes come true while interning with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Tampa, Fla.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation’s mission is to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
Norden is serving as the program service intern. She is working with doctors, doing research on ideas to put the wishes together, writing wish stories, and getting feedback from the Wish Child, their families, and their Wish Granters.
“I leave work every day with a smile on my face,” says Norden. “Whether the tasks I’ve done are big or small, I know that I had a part in making a difference in a child’s life.”
Norden, a human relations major with a minor in nonprofit leadership and management, has a better understanding of nonprofit organizations – how they operate, raise support and awareness, and serve their clients – because of her classes at HPU. She plans to work in the nonprofit field after she graduates and to continue to contribute her efforts to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“I enjoy working with kids and enriching their lives, and I strive to model the values that the university teaches me every day,” says Norden. “I don’t think there is anything more valuable than working and being a part of an organization you really believe in.”
