HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 12, 2011 – High Point University has selected Barry Brown as a recipient of the university’s First Generation Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to Guilford County School students from the city of High Point who will be the first generation in their family to pursue a college degree.
Brown, a graduate of Ragsdale High School, was on the honor roll all through high school, was active with the Ragsdale football team, and also received the Alex C. Smith Sportsmanship Award. He plans to pursue a degree in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship.
“I am very thankful to everyone who went out of their way to help me receive such a generous scholarship,” Brown says. “High Point University has given me a wonderful opportunity that not many people get to experience.”
Brown received a full-tuition scholarship, which includes books and other related expenses during the academic year, and will be renewable for an additional three years provided that all academic requirements are met.
