Student Hits The Airwaves Through Internship At DC Radio Station

HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 4, 2011 – Stephanie Zok, a rising senior majoring in business administration at High Point University, is completing a summer internship at Mix 107.3/ 105.9 The Edge (Citadel Broadcasting Corporation) in Washington, D.C.

Zok is spending her time advertising contests and promotions on the stations’ websites, and also selecting and contacting contest winners. She also assists with station events around the D.C. area and helps the on-air personalities with their live shows.

Recently, Zok had the opportunity to visit the Children’s National Hospital of D.C. for an annual radio-a-thon that raises money to ensure no child is turned away for treatment. Zok says this was particularly touching because Children’s Miracle Network, who works in conjunction with Children’s National, is the philanthropy organization of her sorority, Phi Mu.

“My HPU coursework has helped me excel by utilizing my knowledge of how the chain of command operates within the organization,” says Zok. “My marketing and business courses have helped me understand how financially important sponsorships are to the station.”
