Student Makes Impact On Future Career Through Summer Internship

HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 22, 2011 – Kelly Keegan, a rising junior majoring in marketing with a minor in communication at High Point University, is spending her summer interning with Positive Impact, a sports and entertainment management company.

Keegan is responsible for creating sponsorship information packages to be sent to large companies in order to reach potential sponsors for different events. In addition, she writes press releases to publicize the events and information about the company.

For her main project, Keegan has been assisting with the planning of the Carrier Classic, a basketball game between Michigan State and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which will be played on an aircraft carrier in San Diego, Calif. on Veterans Day. She has been in constant contact with ESPN and the United States Navy to help ensure the event will be memorable. The game will benefit the Wounded Warrior’s Project.

Throughout her internship, Keegan has gained further knowledge about the marketing and advertising world. She has also learned how to apply what she has studied at HPU to real world situations in a persistent and professional manner.

“My coursework at HPU has been essential to my success here at Positive Impact,” says Keegan. “I can refer back to the knowledge I’ve acquired in my marketing and communication classes when I am working on a solo project.”

Keegan says her internship has prepared her for the future because she now knows what to expect, and she can take what she has learned from this experience and apply it in her career.
