HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 2, 2011 – Jason Moore, a 2011 graduate of High Point University, recently had his senior honors thesis, “Beyond Metaphysics: Jean-Luc Marion’s Phenomenology of Givenness,” published by the journal of Phi Sigma Tau, the national philosophy honors society.
Marion is a contemporary French philosopher who works in the field of phenomenology, which is literally the study of the logic of appearances. Phenomenology and its implications in theology, Moore says, is a field that has always interested him.
Moore, who received the Religion and Philosophy Department’s 2011 Parker-Locke award for leadership and academic excellence, worked on his senior thesis with Dr. David Hammond, instructor of religion at HPU.
“I spent almost every free hour researching, writing or discussing the material with my professors,” Moore adds.
While at HPU, Moore was an active member of the Theology and Philosophy clubs; served as vice president of Phi Sigma Tau, the philosophical honor society; was a member of Theta Alpha Kappa, the theological honor society; Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society; and Alpha Chi, the national honor society. He was involved in the Student Government Association. He also helped develop the Personal Training Program at HPU.
In the fall, Moore will attend Vanderbilt Divinity School in the master’s program for Theological Studies.
