Student Selected As One Of 14 Interns With Scripps Networks

HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 8, 2011 – Andrew Faust, a rising senior majoring in biology and communication at High Point University, received the unique opportunity to serve as an online editorial intern as part of a summer internship for Scripps Networks Interactive in Knoxville, Tenn. Faust was one of only 14 students selected nationwide from more than 700 applicants to take part in the internship, which is part of the Dow Jones News Fund Summer Internship Program.

As part of the internship, Faust is helping to prepare content for a new website that HGTV will launch in August – including creating photo galleries, writing headlines and captions, editing stories and pitching color-of-the-month ideas for HGTV’s “Design Happens” blog.

Faust says he has learned the many responsibilities of an online editor, as well as the process of working for a major international media network. And as a bonus, he says the internship has also expanded his knowledge of home design.

“This has been a great experience,” says Faust. “I am excited about having the opportunity to apply my enhanced multimedia skills in a professional environment.”

Faust says the knowledge and the skills he has acquired in this prestigious internship will help him in the future – especially since he has been able to work alongside incredible writers and editors while building relationships with other professionals in the communications industry.
