HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 17, 2011 – Eric Duchess, instructor of history at High Point University, recently published a book review revolving around the complexities of the Civil War in the fall 2011 edition of “Pennsylvania History: A Journal of Mid-Atlantic Studies.”
Duchess reviewed the book, “Northerners at War: Reflections on the Civil War North,” by J. Matthew Gallman. Gallman’s work is an enlightening review of the historian’s intellectual development and evolutions over the past two decades. The book encompasses articles, essays, and other writings on a variety of homefront issues.
The professor says the book review relates to his teaching at HPU through his scholarship on the American Civil War era.
“I am currently teaching a course on the Civil War and Reconstruction, and I’m also writing my doctoral dissertation on a town in Pennsylvania, and the Civil War era is central to my work,” says Duchess.
Duchess also delivered a paper at the annual conference of the Pennsylvania Historical Association on Oct. 14, 2011, titled, “Copperheads and Unionists: Civil War Politics in Washington County, Pennsylvania.”
