Habitat for Humanity Chapter Takes to the Streets for Halloween Bike Ride

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 1, 2011 – The Habitat for Humanity campus chapter at High Point University took to the streets of Durham on HPU bicycles recently to raise money and awareness of the good work and assistance that Habitat provides to those in need.

A group of eight HPU students traveled to Durham for the 8th annual Halloween Bike Ride, where collectively they biked 217 miles. Several hundred cyclists participated that day, but the HPU chapter was the first college chapter to participate in this race, according to Habitat officials.

The HPU Habitat for Humanity chapter has been active on campus since 1999. Campus chapters aim to get students involved with local Habitat builds, as well as hold fundraisers and awareness campaigns.

“High Point University was the first campus chapter that has participated, and now we know that we have these great individuals that can come and volunteer with us,” says Anjani Webb, communications manager at Habitat for Humanity of Durham. “We were excited that these students woke up early enough to travel to Durham and give such an excellence performance. They definitely stood out in a positive way, and we hope to create more campus chapters like the one at HPU.”
