HPU Welcomes Burrows as Instructor of Music

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 11, 2011 – Dr. Candice Burrows was recently hired in the Department of Music at High Point University as instructor of music.

At her new position, Burrows will be responsible for teaching Private Voice lessons, Vocal Literature and Diction courses in Italian, Latin and English.

“We have an amazing faculty that are not only equipped, they are passionate and thoroughly enjoy helping students at every level,” says Burrows.

Before arriving at HPU, Burrows worked as a professional classical singer with many renowned orchestras and opera companies, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. She believes this will benefit herself and her students in her work at HPU.

“I think my professional performance experience is invaluable in higher education and my passion for vocal music is contagious; the students really respond to both” says Burrows.

Burrows, originally from Eugene, Ore., earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon, continued her education at the University of Southern California for a Master of Music, but her demanding performance career prevented her from finishing. In 2006, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro waived her Master’s degree and she finished her Doctor of Music in vocal performance in 2010.
