Professor Publishes Physical Therapy Article

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 29, 2011 – Dr. Alexis Wright, assistant professor of physical therapy for the School of Health Sciences at High Point University, recently published an article in Lower Extremity Review, an online magazine for the field of podiatry, physical therapy, and orthopedics.

The article, titled “Role of physical therapy in patients with hip OA,” focuses on hip osteoarthritis and the benefits of physical therapy. It appeared in the magazine’s most recent November publication.

There is limited and conflicting evidence in support of physical therapy intervention in patients with hip osteoarthritis making it difficult for the clinician to identify which patients are likely to benefit from physical therapy treatment versus those who may not. In this article, Wright identifies key patient variables that when identified in the clinical examination, may suggest a more favorable outcome with physical therapy intervention. In the end, this helps inform both clinicians and students about patient prognosis in response to treatment in patients with hip osteoarthritis.

Wright has received multiple prestigious awards and accomplishments in her field, including the American Physical Therapy Association Emerging Leader Award. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.

Wright received a Bachelor of Arts in kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (summa cum laude), a Doctorate of physical therapy from Duke University, a Doctorate of philosophy from the University of Otago in New Zealand, and a Fellowship in orthopedic manual physical therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
