HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 13, 2012 – The awareness week that students in the TOMS Shoes Campus Chapter at High Point University organized in November had a great impact on the international TOMS Shoes organization – so much that it landed a spot on the Top 10 TOMS Events around the World in 2011.
The TOMS Week, organized by students and held on the HPU campus, ran the gamut from clothing coordination (encouraging students to wear their light blue Toms apparel), to a Start Something that Matters Party, which helped spread the fundamental message of TOMS Shoes – learning to give back to others in unique and creative ways every day. The event also included a live performance from a local band.
TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: With every pair of shoes purchased from the organization, it donates a pair of new shoes to a child in need.
HPU students volunteer more than 30,000 hours each year and learn the values of giving back inside and outside of the classroom.
“This is yet another example of the incredible compassion and kindness that our students show year round,” says Don Scarborough, vice president of Community Relations.
