HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 20, 2012 – Students, faculty and staff joined forces at the start of the spring 2012 semester to help people in need with High Point University’s third blood drive of the academic year. The event netted 51 units of blood.
Through this blood drive and two more blood drives held last semester, the HPU family has donated a total of 342 units of blood this academic year. The final blood drive of the year is scheduled for March, and another blood drive will be held in the summer.
“Students, faculty and staff at High Point University really understand the importance of donating blood,” says Maggie Sturdevant, student director of the Volunteer Center at HPU. “The American Red Cross says that ‘Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood.’ These are people who could be loved ones, friends and just as importantly, strangers. Donating blood is just one of the many ways that High Point University gives back to the community.”
