HPU Honored with Spirit of NC Award from United Way

HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 8, 2012 – High Point University has a true giving spirit – and the United Way of North Carolina recognized that by presenting the university with the 2011 Spirit of North Carolina Award in the category for Educational Institution.

The HPU United Way campaign raised more than $166,000 – a $20,000 increase over the 2010 campaign year, and 83 percent of faculty and staff contributed – an increase in each of the last three years. HPU completed their campaign in less than 40 days.

HPU students, faculty and staff contributed more than 51,000 hours to community service organizations during the past year – and an integral part of the award is volunteer spirit. HPU has strong representation thanks to its many community endeavors, including the Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Arc of High Point, Open Door Ministries, West End Ministries, Salvation Army, and many more.

“The HPU family strives to make a difference in our community because we are High Point’s University,” says Dr. Nido Qubein, president of HPU. “We are proud to partner with United Way and the many organizations they support.”

HPU has won the Spirit of North Carolina Award three times in the past four years.
