Student Gains Real World Experience at Furniture Library Internship

HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 14, 2012 – Meaghan Wade, a senior at High Point University majoring in home furnishings with minors in history and art history, is gaining valuable professional insight from her internship at the Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library this semester.

“My studies at High Point University have impacted my internship experience greatly,” says Wade. “My classes in the home furnishings department have helped me thrive, as the library’s collection mainly includes references for the furniture industry.”

As part of her internship, Wade is helping create an online database of each book in the library, which include many rare and out-of-print books. She is also responsible for labeling and shelving the library’s books.

“This internship is teaching me how to create an online library and organize a large collection of reference materials, which will be a skill I can take with me to future employment,” says Wade. “I am also learning about the functionality of special collection libraries and how they can be of service to the public.”
