HIGH POINT, N.C., March 22, 2012 – Students, faculty and staff lined up to help those in need during the final blood drive for the academic year at High Point University. The blood drive netted 73 units of blood.
The entire school year, which included four separate blood drives – two during the fall semester and two during the spring semester – netted a total of 415 units of blood. One more blood drive will be held during the summer months.
Maggie Sturdevant, Volunteer Center coordinator and junior at HPU, notes that every donation of blood saves up to three lives – which means the HPU family has helped save more than 1,200 lives this year thanks to their continued efforts through blood drives.
“It’s so important to support the Red Cross,” Sturdevant says. “Every two seconds, someone needs blood in the United States – and that translates to mean that more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every single day. It’s great to see fellow students, and faculty and staff members come out and support this very worthy cause.”
