HIGH POINT, N.C., March 8, 2012 – Two faculty members in the School of Health Sciences at High Point University recently represented the school at a national meeting – the American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Sections Meeting (CSM), held in Chicago, which featured 11,000 physical therapists from all over the nation.
Dr. Eric Hegedus, chair of the Department of Physical Therapy, and Dr. Alexis Wright, assistant professor of physical therapy, both served as presenters at the meeting, where they gave a presentation on the best patient self-report and physical performance measures, which are used daily in clinical practice across the country to help determine when a patient is ready to resume normal activities and participation in sports.
This presentation is an extension of their research at HPU which involves the screening of varsity athletes in an attempt to predict performance and prevent injury.
“HPU students had the opportunity to help us conduct this research and apply principles they’re learning in exercise science and athletic training,” Hegedus says. “Staff from HPU’s athletic training and strength condition departments also contributed. It was a great team effort.”
