Pi Kappa Phi Raises More than 5,000 Coins for Push America

HIGH POINT, N.C., March 1, 2012 – The Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at High Point University recently made good use of pocket change – 80 pounds of pocket change, to be exact. Thanks to the event, “Quarters for a Quarter Mile,” the fraternity raised $1,735 for their philanthropy, Push America.

At the event, the fraternity literally lined up quarters – end-to-end – around one lap of the Slane Center’s gym track; then quarters were used to spell out the fraternity’s letters on the gym floor. The money was raised through different activities, such as a chocolate rose sale, a Barberitos restaurant night, a date night auction and the “Push Pageant” – a beauty pageant with a focus on service.

“This event was incredibly important to our fraternity,” says Tim Walker, philanthropy chair for Pi Kappa Phi. “We were able to raise both funds and awareness for our philanthropy, which truly helps makes a difference in people’s lives. We thank everyone who participated. We couldn’t have done it without all of those who helped our great cause.”

Push America, an outreach program that was founded by the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity in 1977, provides numerous programs educating undergraduate students, alumni and communities about the disabilities, and focuses on service leadership, construction and cycling.
