Exceptional Students Recognized at Annual Honors Day Ceremony

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 19, 2012 – High Point University is filled with students who make a difference on campus and in the community, and each year, the university takes time to recognize their efforts during its annual Honors Day Awards ceremony, held on campus on April 18.

The Honors Day program recognizes students who look to not only excel in the classroom, but also across campus by holding leadership positions, taking part in athletics and more. Students who receive awards are actively involved in Greek Life, service organizations, intramural activities, special-interest groups, honor societies and more.

Awards included the University Award for Leadership, presented to Graham Howard; the University Award for Achievement, presented to Andrew Faust; the University Award for Service, presented to Leslie Touassi; and the University Award for Citizenship, presented to Lindsey Queener.

The four students receiving the top university awards, who are all members of the Order of the Lighted Lamp, have been involved in numerous organizations, such as the Board of Stewards, University Ambassadors, Teachers of Tomorrow, Greek organizations, Peer Mentors and have achieved academic distinctions such as receiving HPU’s Presidential Scholarship, and being recognized in “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.”

During the ceremony, each academic department also honored students’ academic achievements.

Also, seniors who will be graduating with All University Honors in May include: Kara Bird, Tiffany Byerly, Paige Coleman, Chelsea Davis, Meghan Gawne, Laura Lee, Amelia Morgan, Ashley Parrish, Megan Perry, Ashley Press, Megan Procaccini, Lauren Reese, Miah Saunders, Rebecca Seger, Rachel Sniff, Brielle Spencer, Adara Starr, Amanda Tindall and Taylor Zickefoose.

To achieve this distinction, a student must have at least a 3.45 GPA in both honors and non-honors courses.

Students who were inducted into the Order of the Lighted Lamp for 2012 include: Brian Baird, Alicia Berry, Sarah Cayan, Andrew Faust, Kelsey Fraser, Brittany Freels, Luke Grome, Amelia Morgan, Zachary Mosley, Sara Orazi, Valerie Park, John Purcell, Dylan Robinson and Stephanie Zok. The Order of the Lighted Lamp recognizes leadership abilities and excellent character as well as academic achievement.
