HIGH POINT, N.C., April 18, 2012 – High Point University senior and interior design major Annie Beuker has been named the national winner of the 2012 Raymond Waites National Design Competition. She was chosen from among 58 design entries nationwide for her design, “Humble Baroque.”
Sponsored by the International Furnishings and Design Association, Market Square Suites and House Beautiful magazine, the competition challenged interior design students to create a vision for a luxurious master bedroom with a closet and master bathroom. The competition called for an application, inspiration page, essay, and floor plan with architectural features and in-depth elevations and specifications.
As winner, Beuker will receive a $5,000 prize and a trip to the High Point Furniture Market as the guest of honor at a reception held in the Suites at Market Square. There, she will attend luncheons, meet with designers and attend the House Beautiful magazine party.
“I am so excited and thrilled to be selected as the winner of the competition. I feel so honored and thankful for being chosen. During the project, I became so passionate about my design and I was really happy that the judges loved my design, too,” says Beuker, a native of Grand Rapids, Mich. “When I was notified, I was truly shocked and immediately became excited.”
The Raymond Waites competition is not Beuker’s first involvement with the IFDA – she was invited to the “Night of Luminaries” in December 2011, as HPU’s top senior in the interior design program. She also attended IFDA’s “Rising Star” event as a student member.
In spring 2011, she was also awarded the Celia Moh Scholarship, which was established in October 2001 by furniture industry entrepreneur Laurence Moh to honor his wife, Celia. The scholarship was designed for students whose academic endeavors will lead to careers in the home furnishings industry, and it covers full tuition, room, board, books and fees for one year.
