HIGH POINT, N.C., April 30, 2012 – High Point University’s chapter of Phi Mu sorority recently turned their annual basketball competition into a memorial for Kaleb Rancer, a local child who died of cancer, thanks to the annual “Hoop-A-Paluza.”
During the event, fraternities on campus participated head-to-head in a variety of games. The competition featured a free-shot competition. The sorority also added a new twist this year with the “King of the Jungle” event, where teams rallied for money donations from students toward the cause.
“We are using our events as a chance to remind us how special our bond is, and how lucky we are to attend a school with such a close-knit Greek community,” says Samantha Robbins, internal philanthropy chair for Phi Mu. “High Point University stresses the three core values – extraordinary education, inspiring environment and caring people – and Phi Mu is working to remember these values in everything that we do.”
Proceeds from the event were donated to Children’s Miracle Network, Phi Mu’s primary philanthropy, and to Kaleb’s treatment center, Duke Children’s Hospital – also a Children’s Miracle Network hospital.
