HIGH POINT, N.C., May 3, 2012 – The Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at High Point University recently raised more than $2,000 for a worthy cause in a unique way by hosting its annual Car Smash event, which benefits Push America.
At the event, the fraternity offered students the chance to smash a used car with a hammer in exchange for a donation. The High Point Fire Department also demonstrated the Jaws of Life on the car. Afterward, the fraternity hosted an empathy dinner for the HPU Greek community.
“The Car Smash is important to us and is been a tradition for Pi Kappa Phi at HPU,” says Tim Walker, philanthropy chair for Pi Kappa Phi “This event allows us to create opportunities for students to be involved to support Push America.”
Their cause, Push America, is an outreach program that was founded by the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity in 1977. It provides numerous programs educating undergraduate students, alumni and communities about people with disabilities, and it focuses on service, leadership, construction and cycling.
Walker says the Car Smash event was created by the HPU chapter on campus, and the fraternity is proud to continue the tradition each year.
