High Point, N.C., June 29, 2012 – On June 27 at Constitution Hill in Washington, D.C., High Point University President Nido Qubein was presented with the DAR Americanism Medal, the highest honor that the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution may bestow on a foreign-born citizen. The gala event hosted 3,000 delegates from across the nation.
The Americanism Committee was established in 1919 with the goal of developing better citizenship training for all persons residing in the United States. An Americanism Medal recipient must have shown outstanding qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service and patriotism as well as displayed outstanding ability in community affairs.
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. DAR members volunteer more than 250,000 hours annually to veteran patients, award thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and support schools for underserved children with annual donations exceeding one million dollars. There are 170,000 members in 3,000 chapters in all 50 states of the US.
