HIGH POINT, N.C., July 11, 2012 – Dr. Kevin Ford, associate professor of physical therapy for the School of Health Sciences at High Point University, was recently awarded the “Nicolas Andry Award” by The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons for a paper he co-authored about ACL injury prevention.
The paper, “A Systematic Approach to Prevent Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury,” was co-authored by Ford with primary author Dr. Timothy Hewett, and co-authors Dr. Gregory Myer, Dr. Mark Paterno and Dr. Carmen Quatman from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, University of Cincinnati, and Ohio State University. The primary purpose of the collaborative research was to identify risk factors for ACL injuries in female athletes and develop injury prevention programs.
The Nicolas Andry Award is presented by the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons for a review of a body of work conducted and published over an extended period of time that deals with the musculoskeletal system and has significantly contributed to orthopedic knowledge and practice.
The award was presented to the group following their paper presentation earlier this year at the annual meeting of The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons.
As someone who has sustained an ACL injury, Ford has been dedicated to finding ways to prevent these injuries since he tore his first ACL playing collegiate soccer.
“Our collaborative research team has worked tirelessly to reduce devastating knee injuries in young females,” says Ford. “I am confident that we can translate our findings from the laboratory to local area gymnasiums and fields.”
