HIGH POINT, N.C., July 18, 2012 – Courtney McLaughlin, a rising senior majoring in communication with a concentration in strategic communication at High Point University, is obtaining new skills in the television industry through an internship with Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. this summer.
McLaughlin is responsible for a variety of tasks such as production coordinating for the studio’s networks, which include CNN, TBS and NBA TV, and assisting her producers with scripts.
McLaughlin is the co-captain of the HPU Women’s Lacrosse team. She says that her coursework has provided her with the skills necessary to succeed in her internship. In addition, the head coach of the Men’s Lacrosse Team, Jon Torpey, encouraged her to apply for the internship.
“My classes at HPU have been invaluable in my internship,” said McLaughlin. “My communication courses have given me the tools that I need to be able to think on my feet, generate great ideas and work in groups effectively.”
Additionally, McLaughlin says that working with many different people and television networks has helped shape her career interests and discover her passion for the entertainment industry.
