Strategic Communication Grad Students Learn from Community Event Planners

HIGH POINT, N.C., July 2, 2012 – Students in the Norcross Graduate School at High Point University received a presentation from four community event planners who offered advice and real-world experience in event planning and management.

The students, enrolled in the strategic communication master’s program, heard from Nishaka Proctor, of Events with Excellence; Christine Moore, of M&M Meetings and Event Planning; Grant Johnson, of Hooper Funeral Home; and Ashantia Wright, of Start 2 Finish Event Planning and Gifts Company.

The four panelists covered topics such as the importance of details in successful event planning, budgeting, time management and more.

“Having professionals who have worked in the field of study come into our class to share their real world experiences so openly, including their successes and failures, is invaluable to use as students,” says Joel McIver, a student in the graduate program. “These types of programs and mentoring events are what make me love HPU so much. I’m not sure you can get these experiences anywhere else.”
