Junior Tees Off With Golf Club Internship

HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 17, 2012 – Paige Sigmon, a rising junior at High Point University, may be at the links for her summer internship, however, she is getting professional experience as a merchandise assistant at The Golf Club at Lansdowne in Lansdowne, Va.

Sigmon, a business administration major with minors in finance and economics, is responsible for purchasing new merchandise at the shop, forecasting sales, budgeting, maintaining the pro shop with its pricing and display and heading inventory counts at the end of each month. She has also had the opportunity to manage a variety of tournaments held at the club, including the Redskins Alumni, NFL Hall of Fame Bobby Mitchell, ESPN Classic with commentators Michael Wilbon Tony Kornheiser, BB&T, the Fisher House, Red Zebra – True Hero’s Wounded Warriors and the USO.

Sigmon hopes that the internship will give her the necessary experience to continue her education in the pursuit of a master’s degree.

“Before my financing and managerial accounting classes at HPU, I never realized how necessary it was to have accounting skills in a business,” Sigmon says. “Accounting is necessary in almost every area of business and having a strong background in accounting has made me successful here at Lansdowne.”
