HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 10, 2012 – Emily Agee, a rising senior at High Point University, is gaining unique, valuable experience as a dental assistant at the Piedmont Regional Jail Medical Department in Farmville, Va.
As part of her internship, Agee, who is majoring in biology, is responsible for helping prepare inmates for dental procedures and assisting the jail’s dentist with patient examinations and procedures.
“This internship has helped solidify my passion for dentistry,” says Agee, who hopes to attend dental school after graduating from HPU. “I love what I am doing here on a daily basis, which has made it clear to me that being a dentist is what I am meant to do.”
Agee, who is from Farmville, Va., says that she enjoys staying on her toes and being able to get hands-on experience in the field.
“Every day brings something new at the jail,” says Agee. “I never know what to expect, but that is what I love about my internship.”
