HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 30, 2012 – Roxanne Tammone, a rising senior at High Point University, is one of six women across the country selected to coordinate and host the 2013 South Eastern Panhellenic Conference.
Tammone is a sister of Alpha Gamma Delta and the Panhellenic president at HPU. As the special events coordinator, she will be planning a philanthropy project, silent auction, affiliation breakfast and T-shirt swap for the conference, to be held on March 22-24, 2013 in Atlanta.
The conference has been in existence since 1955 and focuses on educating women through practical application, empowering women and creating strong female leaders. It is unique in that the core group of decision makers is made up of students.
As a journalism major, Tammone has been able to turn her classroom lessons into real-world experience. HPU has prepared her to be an excellent observer and how to communicate well with others in a fast-paced environment.
Not only has HPU prepared Tammone for her leadership role with the conference, but the conference has benefited her academic and philanthropic endeavors at HPU, bringing it full circle.
“I find myself constantly returning to HPU with new ways to revamp not only my Panhellenic community, but myself,” she says. “The lessons I have learned have taught me how to be a better leader and to empower others to become better leaders themselves.”
