HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 9, 2012 – Teri Cugliari, director of Greek life at High Point University, was selected to facilitate a session of the John and Nellie Wooden Institute for Men of Principle.
As a facilitator, Cugliari encouraged students to engage in deep conversations about challenges that they face in college years, as well as reinforce the importance of developing a community of support to aid in tackling these obstacles.
The Wooden Institute was established in 1998 to refocus the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity on its founding principles in order to maintain the integrity and relevance of the fraternity experience, its chapters and its members.
The Institute is recognized in both the fraternal industry and higher education as a transformational program that teaches students the skills necessary to become effective and capable leaders. In order to be a facilitator for such an intense, immersion-style leadership program, a person must be capable of engaging and interacting with students at a high level and fully committed to the growth and development of young leaders.
“To be asked to facilitate a session of the Wooden Institute is recognition that Teri is regarded as a strong and accomplished leadership educator,” said Paul Kittle, dean of students at HPU.
Beta Theta Pi fraternity will establish a group at HPU in the fall. Cugliari’s involvement and training on the leadership model of the Institute will benefit the new chapter as the men learn the values and principles of what the fraternity is based on. She returned to HPU with new curriculum and resources for future leadership and educational programming for HPU students.
“The transformational nature of the Institute aligns with the values of HPU. Having a staff member selected to serve in this role reflects positively on HPU and demonstrates that we hire and retain qualified, committed and inspired staff to work with our students,” said Kittle.
