HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 21, 2012 – High Point University will feature the talents of the Relevents Wind Quintet, the faculty-ensemble-in-residence, in an upcoming concert at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 in the Hayworth Chapel on the HPU campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert program will feature works by August Klughardt: “Wind Quintet in C Major, Op. 79”; Carl Schimmel: “Towns of Wind and Wood for woodwind quintet”; and Miguel del Aguila: “Wind Quintet No. 2.”
“We are excited to present two North Carolina premieres on this concert: Schimmel’s ‘Towns of Wind and Wood’ and Aguila’s ‘Wind Quintet No.2,’” says Laura Stevens, flutist in the quintet and instructor of music at HPU.
Relevents Wind Quintet is the faculty ensemble-in-residence at HPU and was founded in 2008 by a group of professional musicians in Greensboro who were looking for the exceptional collaborative experience that only chamber music can provide. The group has performed throughout Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. They made their international debut on a tour of southern Germany in March 2009.
Current members of the group include Laura Stevens on flute, Dr. Thomas Pappas on oboe, Dr. Shawn Copeland on clarinet, Mark Hekman on bassoon and Mary Boudreault on horn. All five are dedicated performers and faculty members at HPU.
Members of the quintet will be available directly after the concert for questions, conversation and discussion. For more information about the quintet, visit www.releventswindquintet.com.
Parking for the event will be located behind the Hayworth Chapel.
