The Department of Physics hosted the Fall 2012 Joint Meeting of SPS Zone 5 and NCS-AAPT. Over 80 physics students and teachers from NC participated in the conference. Highlights included:
- Keynote speaker, Jerry Tessendorf, Professor of Visual Computing and Director of the Digital Production Arts Program at Clemson University, who spoke about developing physics simulations for Hollywood films
- SPS panel discussion with three industrial physicists and entrepreneurs: Eric L. Buckland of Bioptigen, Reyad Sawafta, of Quartek Corporation, and Jeff Brown of RF Micro Devices
- Invited Speaker, Andy Rundquist, of Hamline University on “What’s class time for?”
- Workshops on high-speed imaging, robotics, and inexpensive amplitude modulated lasers
- Physics teaching “share-a-thon” with rapid fire talks and demonstrations
