HIGH POINT, N.C., April 5, 2013 – The High Point University Department of Music is excited to present their annual Spring Choral Concert. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on April 19-20 in the Pauline Theatre of the Hayworth Fine Arts Center.
The annual concert will feature the University Singers, the Women’s Choir, the Chapel Choir and the Chamber Singers in a selection of spirituals, including “Ride the Chariot,” “Honor! Honor!,” “Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit,” “Ain’t Got Time to Die,” “Abide with Me,” “Jesus Lay Your Head in the Window,” “Keep your Lamps,” “Give Me Jesus,” “Soon Ah Will Be Done,” “My Soul’s Been Anchored,” “Elijah Rock,” “The Battle of Jericho,” “My God is So High,” “This Little Light of Mine” and “Deep River.”
The choirs will be joined by professional soloists, Louise Toppin, chair of the Vocal Division at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and James Martin, voice professor at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to share the talents of our choral groups with the campus and community,” says Dr. Marc Ashley Foster, chair of the Department of Music and Director of Choral Activities at High Point University. “The music in this concert is not only moving, but a remarkable part of our country’s history.”
