HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 14, 2013 – High Point University will treat the community to two nights of musical cheer with its annual Holiday Choral Concert. The performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 and Dec. 5 in the Pauline Theatre of the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. The concerts are free open to the public.
This year’s event will feature the Christmas carols of esteemed composer John Rutter, who has three separate collections of carols that will be performed by a group of more than 100 singers, including members of the University Singers, Chapel Choir, Women’s Chorus and the Chamber Singers. The accompanying orchestra will feature HPU students, faculty and guest musicians.
“Our Holiday Choral Concerts have become a holiday tradition for many in our High Point community,” says Dr. Marc Foster, chair of the department of music and director of choral activities at HPU. “We are giving two performances this year and hope to pack the hall for both.”
Many popular classic Christmas tunes will be performed at the holiday event, such as “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Away in a Manger,” “God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen,” “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” “Joy to the World,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and many more.
“Quite a few of the carols are arranged for audience participation, so we hope everyone will come ready to sing,” Foster says. “We invite the community to come out and celebrate the holiday season with this memorable performance.”
Parking will be available for community members behind the Hayworth Fine Arts Center.
