HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 10, 2013 – Five local families will have a happier holiday season thanks to High Point University’s Qubein School of Communication. Graduate students, faculty and staff “adopted” the families through Family Service of the Piedmont, and donated toys, clothes and gift cards for the families.
“The gift cards are for everything from grocery stores to entertainment,” said Dr. Virginia McDermott, associate dean of the School of Communication. “We want to let the parents not only buy some of the gifts and food for their families this season, but also give them the chance to spend quality time doing things together.”
This is the second year the school has participated in Family Service of the Piedmont’s “Operation ELF.”
“This group never disappoints,” said Stephanie Allred from Family Service of the Piedmont. “They go above and beyond to make sure the families in the domestic violence shelter have a wonderful Christmas. They don’t just focus on toys, but also on what the residents will need on a daily basis like towels and clothes.”
