Class of 2014 Outcomes: Derrell Edwards Works on NASCAR Pit Crew


With a successful 2014 Commencement Ceremony behind us, recent High Point University graduates are preparing to commence prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2014:

Name: Derrell Edwards

Major: Edwards graduated with a B.A. in Human Relations, with a minor in Nonprofit Leadership and Management, on May 3.

Post-graduation plans: Edwards accepted a position as a jackman with Richard Childress Racing’s professional pit crew team in Welcome, N.C.

How HPU helped you get there: “The HPU Alumni Association introduced me to great people at RCR, which helped me earn an internship with the team’s pit crew last summer. On my last day as an intern, they all said they hoped I’d be back.”

Most impactful professor at HPU: “My most impactful professor at HPU was Dr. David Bergen.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “During my time playing basketball at High Point for the 2012-2014 seasons, my most memorable moment at HPU was winning back-to-back regular season men’s basketball championships.”
