HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 5, 2014 – Patrick Kane, a rising junior at High Point University and native of Lutherville, Maryland, is learning the ins and outs of financing through his internship at Capital Funding Group in Baltimore.
The business administration major helps create structured financing and refinancing deals for the company’s clients, creates client presentations and evaluates financing deals in order to suggest potential changes for improvement.
The internship also gives Kane access to the chairman and sole owner of Capital Funding Group, John Dwyer.
“I’ve learned how he started this business from the ground up, and about the difficulties one faces when starting their own company,” says Kane. “These difficulties range from gaining supporters and capital; having clear and realistic goals; and the time and dedication it takes to see one’s business succeed in such a competitive world.”
Kane credits opportunities provided by the Office of Career and Internship Services with helping him secure the internship, including networking events at HPU and seminars discussing how to formally reach out to businesses.
Kane also says Dr. David Bergen, chair of human relations at HPU, helped set him up for success.
“Dr. Bergen’s engaging teaching style and personality positively made my first semester of freshman year a great one,” says Kane. “Another point to make about his engaging personality was his ability to relate the course material to everyday life. That type of outlook helped improve the way I thought in other courses and positively impacted my grades throughout my HPU career thus far.”
