HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 24, 2014 – High Point University continues to receive strong advocacy from parents, including a new gift for the Center for Student Success. Michael and Laura Baur, parents of a current student, donated $1 million to the center, currently under construction and designed to be a hub of experiential learning and career preparation for students. The center has been funded entirely by parents with $16 million in gifts.
Mike Baur is the co-founder of ScanSource Inc. in Greenville, South Carolina, a Fortune 1,000 company that posts annual sales of $3 billion, has 26 locations across North America, Latin America and Europe, and employs over 1,500 people. The company is an international distributor of specialty technology products, such as point-of-sale systems, barcode scanners, mobility products, video and audio conferencing solutions, access control equipment and video surveillance solutions.
Mike Baur, who has spent his career in the IT industry, embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that HPU instills in all of its students. “The Baur family is an example of what innovation and entrepreneurship can accomplish,” says Dr. Nido Qubein, HPU president. “We prepare our students to be job creators, not job takers, and that is what Mr. Baur has done. We are grateful for his support and admire his achievements in business and in life.”
