HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 18, 2014 – The U.S. Capitol Building has served as the meeting place of the U.S. Congress for 214 years. In a Sept. 17 presentation held on the High Point University campus, former Senator James T. Broyhill shared with the High Point community “Stories You Have Seldom Heard Before,” which included highlights of the building’s history and a few little-known stories of events that took place in the Capitol.

The event also featured the North Carolina Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard in their 18th century uniforms while Susan Griffin Fisher, Miss North Carolina 1974, sang the National Anthem. Broyhill’s address was jointly sponsored by HPU, the High Point Museum Guild, the Bienenstock Furniture Library and the Alexander Martin Chapter of the National Society for the Daughters of the American Revolution.
