HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 23, 2014 – High Point University will welcome audiences to explore the fine line between heroes and villains as part of a concert presented by the Greensboro Symphony. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 in the Pauline Theatre of the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public; professional dress is required.
Led by Dmitry Sitkovetsky, world-renowned conductor and violinist, the concert will feature Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3. Russian pianist Igor Kamenz will begin the concert, treating audiences to Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 1.
Initially written in celebration of Napoleon’s revolutionary regime, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 swiftly changed course when Bonaparte revealed his true intentions and proclaimed himself Emperor of the French in 1804. Disgusted by Napoleon’s thirst for power, Beethoven dramatically ripped up the title page, re-named it “Sinfonia eroica” and established it as one of the most legendary works of the 19th century.
A limited number of complimentary tickets will be available for the general public contacting 336-841-9209 or emailing [email protected].
Visitors are encouraged to enter campus through the welcome center at the intersection of Montlieu Avenue and North College Drive. Public parking and shuttles will be available in the lot behind the Hayworth Fine Arts Center.
