HPU Adds Wieland as Learning Excellence Specialist

HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 20, 2014 – Leanne Wieland recently joined the staff at High Point University as a learning excellence specialist in the Office of Academic Development.

In this role, Wieland will be teaching ADV 1101: Foundations for Academic Success as well as providing support to students working to strengthen their organizational, time management and study skills.

Wieland returns to HPU after working in Durham Public Schools with students who have advanced and special learning needs. Previously at HPU, she served as an adjunct professor in the English Department, where she taught Composition and Rhetoric as well as English 2200: Tragedy and Romance in Literature.

“I’m excited to be back at HPU both in the classroom and working one-on-one with students to help them gain transferable life skills and achieve academic success,” she says.

A Savannah, Georgia native, Wieland earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of Georgia and was a recipient of the Hope Scholarship. She also received a University Fellowship from Wake Forest University, where she completed a master’s in English literature. Her academic focus was on the ways in which place and space inform the politics of Modern literature.
