HPU to Host Mother of Slain UVA Student for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Who: The HPU and local community. The event is open to the public.

What: Sharon Love will speak to students on dating and domestic violence prevention.

Where: Hayworth Fine Arts Center on HPU campus

When: Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

Why: As part of the university’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month programming, Sharon Love, mother of Yeardley Reynolds Love, will discuss her own daughter’s tragic experience with relationship violence. She will also talk about the importance of recognizing the warning signs of relationship violence and motivate individuals to step up and take action.

Yeardley Love was a lacrosse player at UVA in 2010 when she was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. The high profile case was covered heavily by national media outlets. Sharon now operates the One Love Foundation in honor of Yeardley’s memory and to prevent future tragedies.

HPU’s Women’s and Gender Studies Program, Office of Student Life, Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council have all partnered to bring Sharon to campus.
